The Department of Artificial Cardiac Pacing (DECA) of the Brazilian Society of Cardiovascular Surgery (BSCVS) was founded in 1986 by cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and other physicians interested in the subject. During these 25 years, DECA maintains its goals of adding, disciplining and training medical professionals involved in the field of artificial cardiac pacing. Nowadays, DECA has over 500 members throughout Brazil, performing an average of 18 thousand implants of pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronizers a year for social security (SUS), private or health insurance patients.
